International and regional standing

The Journal of Energy in Southern Africa (JESA) is accredited by the Scientific Electronic Library Online database, parameterised in South Africa (SciELO-SA), which puts it on par with the international state of the art in peer-reviewed publication. The ScieLO-SA has its footprint as South Africa’s premier open-access journal database through the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf), which is itself endorsed by the country's Department of Higher Education and Training. The ScieLO is, in turn, a database hosted by Thomson Reuters in Science Citation Index Expanded sub-database within Web of Science Core Collection. From this ScieLO-SA platform, Thomson Reuters indexes the articles that are provided and made available by the publisher of ScieLO-SA. The research community publishing in JESA, therefore, become well-recognised participants in international scientific publishing arena, since the primary services of Thomson Reuters is to develop and deliver intelligent information and solutions for professionals, which connect and empower global markets.

Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property & Science business was acquired by Clarivate Analytics in 2016. The good standing and perforamce of JESA in Clarivate Analytics (CA) was boosted by the recent CA's Journal Citation Report, which found that JESA recorded an increase in the journal impact factor (JIF), of 18% from 0.237 in 2015 to 0.280 in 2016, as well as nearly two-fold increase in number of citations from 97 in 2015 to 175 in 2016. This achievement strongly supports JESA’s aspirations to ultimately achieve a JIF of 1 and also, with much appreciation, makes authors publishing their work in JESA viewed as valuable contributors to regional and international energy research outputs.
