Update: Annoucement regarding the future of South African Crime Quarterly

07/14/2025

We regret to inform readers and authors that South African Crime Quarterly will sunset at the end of 2025, as the Institute for Security Studies is no longer able to continue managing the journal beyond this year.

Efforts to secure a new institutional home are continuing, but no firm arrangement is currently in place.

The first issue of SACQ was published last month. A second, consolidated edition, containing articles originally intended for issues two, three, and four, will follow later in the year.

On 1 September 2025, we closed the submission portal to prepare the final edition. We remain dedicated to processing all manuscripts submitted and already in the system.

We have limited editorial capacity, so there may be delays with your submission. We are doing our best to work through these.

Over the past two decades, SACQ has become a respected platform for accessible, policy-relevant research on crime and criminal justice in South Africa. We are proud of what it has achieved, and deeply grateful to all those who have contributed to its success.

We thank all our contributors, reviewers, and readers for their support.

Regards,

SACQ editor
