CHANGE IN SAJOT CCL and COPYRIGHT
CHANGE IN SAJOT’s CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSE (CCL) AND COPYRIGHT POLICIES:
Since 2014, all articles in the SAJOT were published under a CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. This implied that, although all published material was freely available, users were not allowed to use the information for either Commercial Purposes or publish any derivatives of the original published work. It prohibits any modifications, translations or adaptations and as such, prevent the creation of valuable derivative works, such as translations for wider accessibility, use as educational materials, or the integration of research findings into new tools and application.
Towards the end of 2024, SAJOT obtained a Diamond Open Access status, meaning that all information in the Journal is free to access and no article processing fees (APCs) are payable by authors. To further the benefits of Open Science, which has become a global trend, the SAJOT Publications Sub-committee of OTASA has decided that from the December 2025 edition onwards, all work will be published under a CC-BY attribution 4.0 license. This means that the published material can be used for any purpose, provided that attribution is given to the original creator(s) of the work.
At the same time, copyright, which in the past belonged to the SAJOT, will now be retained by the author(s) of each published article.
We believe that these changes will foster innovation and a more collaborative environment where researchers can build upon each other’s work.
