SAJOT special edition December 2026 call for papers: Occupational therapy work practice

 

The South African Journal of Occupational Therapy (SAJOT) is the official journal of the Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa (OTASA). It is a Diamond Open Access journal. There are no article processing costs for submissions and all published material is free to access.

The December 2026 special edition SAJOT will focus on occupational therapy work practice. We invite articles that contribute to the knowledge and practice of occupational therapists relating to the occupation of work. The special edition aims to provide a platform for debate pertaining occupational therapy work practice in Africa whilst also contributing to the development of the profession worldwide.

The scope of the December 2026 special edition will be Occupational Therapy Work Practice.

Articles are invited on occupational therapy interventions that prevent, address, follow up and enable participation in work as an important human occupation, including:

  • Stages of engagement in work; entering the workforce for the first time, to promotion and prevention for maintained work, including assessment of work readiness, ability to work / FCE and supporting return to work.
  • Work as a human right and social determinant of health.
  • Prevention of injury / pathology that will impact on ability to work.
  • Work-related transitions, from education to work or work to retirement.
  • Disability integration in competitive, sheltered, protected and informal work.
  • Sectors for work practice, including special needs schools, correctional services, and corporate settings.
  • Education of occupational therapy students to prepare them for work practice.

Composition of the special edition journal

  • The special edition calls for research articles, reviews of literature / policies / guidelines, scientific letters, commentaries, opinion pieces and book reviews related to the human occupation of work. (Please note that SAJOT does not accept pre-prints or review protocols.)
  • The range of articles to be inclusive of all aspects of work practice and representative of various contexts.
  • Representation of various training facilities in South Africa and the rest of Africa will be sought and articles from the rest of the globe will be welcomed.
  • Articles will be multi-facetted and represent clinical, academic and theoretical aspects pertaining work.
  • Authors need not be occupational therapists
